Support the Scoville Peace Fellowship
The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship is a nonprofit, tax-exempt, 501(c)(3)
organization. Gifts to the Scoville Peace Fellowship are tax deductible, as
allowed by law. The Fellowship is financed by voluntary tax-deductible
contributions from individuals and grants from foundations.
The Scoville Peace Fellowship was established in 1987 to provide a unique
opportunity for recent college graduates to work with leading peace and security
organizations in Washington, DC. The many peace and security challenges we face
today, including wars, terrorism and weapons proliferation, require new talent
to address and solve these problems. By investing in these young people, we help
to create a new generation of policy experts and advocates committed to working
for peace and international security. The program has been very successful in
recruiting top college graduates who have made significant contributions in both
research, writing, and advocacy to their host organizations. In addition, many
Scoville Fellows contribute to work in the field and assume positions of
preeminence with public-interest organizations, academia, and in the federal
government.
The Scoville Fellowship enjoys the support and respect of the peace and security
community. In November 2005 the Peace and Security Initiative released the
results of a survey of over fifty people from non-profits and foundations
entitled “Next Generation of Talent.” The survey lists as its first
recommendation, in a section titled “Increase Financial Support for Attracting
Young People,”
"Additional funding for NGOs to support intern stipends and young professional
benefits would help organizations directly. Better funding of fellowships
—particularly the successful yet under-resourced Scoville Fellowship Program—and
other community opportunities to help young people would also help in this
regard."
